There’s more nickel than lithium in some Li-ion batteries

When considering resource bottlenecks for “lithium” batteries, we naturally wonder about global supplies of lithium, but most of the batteries being produced have as much or more nickel, and many also have cobalt, and also manganese. As of this writing however, nickel spot prices are down over the 5 year term, flat over 1 year, and rising over the last 6 months, from around $4 to $5.50/lb.

The author of the linked article cites research indicating nickel will make up 80% of all cathode material by 2020, with manganese and cobalt descending to 10%.
