Fisker solid state battery to be ready by 2023
This newly announced Fisker battery sounds like the real deal, but 2023 is a long way off in battery years. Solid Energy Systems is already producing a solid state battery with 450 Wh/kg, which is 4 times as much as Tesla’s batteries and twice as much as the most energy dense batteries available. However, they’ve made no claims about charging rate.
Fisker’s battery increases available surface area by interleaving single atom thick graphene with a lithium compound a few atoms thick. However there are still scientific and technical hurdles to overcome, so at this time it’s not even certain that this will be a product.
