Modern batteries make power shifting economically viable
Batteries are getting less expensive and more reliable, enough so that power shifting is now economically viable. This is where you “store power when it is at its cheapest for use when electricity is most costly.” Companies can do this independently of power suppliers, so it will be interesting to see the effect this has on public utilities.
